~ a doodle ~

I doodled this one day at work.
For some reason, whenever I look at it, I always think of Hoshino Tetsurou from Galaxy Express 999.

paper cutting

I often dream of being able to create the elaborate 3-dimensional papercut art pieces I see online. But, I am a beginner and not so handy with a knife.

And, have I mentioned I'm klutzy?

Despite nature's trick upon me; making me unable to remain unscathed through most of life's adventures, I still dream of making elaborate paper art.

One day, little gothfaeriequeen. One day...

This here is one of my first forays into this type of medium. It is simple. Based upon one of my drawings that I enlarged and then traced onto the back of the paper. (I need to start simple. I am not at the skill level to just eyeball the paper and magically create things...)

Interestingly enough (to me at least), is that the black paper is the paper that was cut; the striped paper is simply laying underneath it.

I had issues not ripping the piece that is the outline of her hair that goes across the cut out image. But, I did it!

Go me!

cell phone photography

the colourful drysink

In a few months, it will be 3 years since my grandfather passed away. My maternal grandfather was my favorite grandfather (I had issues with my paternal grandfather). So, it seems sort of fitting that I want to talk about the dry skink I refinished.

My grandfather made the dry sink and it sat in my grandparents basement for as long as I can remember; unused and piled with junk. When we were cleaning out his home to put it up for sale, my mother asked me if there was anything I wanted. Since my cousin had already claimed the dresser I had wanted, I asked for the dry sink.

Grandpa had left plastic bags on it and they had broken down over time and stuck to the surface, most likely due to the finish. So, my first step was to sand the surface of the dry sink to remove everything. After priming it, I chose two colours that would fit well into my bathroom; a sort of seafoam-y green and a bright pink (the colours in the image are altered, but the gist of the colours are there).

I also replaced the handles as a few of the original ones had broken. I quite like the ones that I found as they look vintage-y enough that they fit with the era of the piece.

The Refresh!

Perhaps you've noticed that I seemed to have forgotten about this poor little blog.
And, perhaps you've noticed that, as of today, all of my old posts have vanished!
I just wasn't liking how it was flowing. I was disatisfied with it. And, when I am disatisfied with something I am pretty good at ignoring it and pretending it doesn't exist.

I want to spend more time taking photos and getting better at editing them and making them look like I want to. Then, I feel I can actually justify eventually getting the $700+ camera I have been drooling over for years. Plus, I can share some of the items I've collected.

I don't want to completely forget about my art and crafts; I want to include them on here too. I just wasn't liking how it was all laid out before. And, to be honest, some of the pieces I had shared... I no longer liked them.

That being said, I did like a couple of the projects I posted on here, so I will be making a few more posts today to include them.

* Cheers!
